I thought I would start this topic as a catch-all for pictures of bits and pieces we can find along the roads of Wirral. These may be electricity or water boxes, gas street lamps, post boxes etc - whatever you find - happy hunting.

Hamilton Square, I suspect this is the base of an old street lamp that has been capped. There is a large door on the side facing the camera (I realise now what a rubbish angle I chose!)

I'm curious to know who did the artistic paint job on the Parkway box. It's probably not the electricity company because time is money to them, so was it a private effort? Very interesting! Bri
The Hamilton Square one is obviously an original tram standard, dating back to electrification in 1901. They're not all the same, though. Some samples attached:
Oops! Rechecking, I've noticed they are all the same and this pattern is everywhere in the old photos of the borough. It's not obvious why these should be different unless a special type was used for the prestigious Hamilton Square. Bri
Thanks for that bri, you are most certainly right on that, I thought is a bit heavy duty for a street lamp.
Anyone else got/know of any old street furniture that still exists. Don't worry about pictures, they can be sorted easily enough, so just descriptions and location would be fine.

I am wondering what this is. There are a few of them in Hoylake around the kings gap area. This one in particular is about half way down Stanley road.
I guess it may have something to do with old gas street lights. Perhaps it housed a constantly burning flame for the man whos job it was to light the lamps in the area?. Any ideas?.
