The LEVIATHAN was built by Cammell Laird in 1909 and was at that time the worlds largest dredger. She was built for the Mersey docks & Harbour board, she was designed for dredging the main approaches to the port of Liverpool and became famous for being the largest sand pump dredger. At a length of 487ft, beam of 69ft and depth of 30ft 7 inches, her gross tonnage was 8590 and had a crew of 44. The crew were accommodated as follows, deck and engine room hands where in the forecastle , while catering and officers aft. Leviathan had 2 suction pipes each side and dumped in Liverpool bay. She also dumped household rubbish from Liverpool bins out past the bay. It was often thought it wasn't always the case and often joked that the rubbish quite often beat them back in to port. She was sold for scrapping in 1962.
