HOYLAKE'S annual Lifeboat open day takes place on Bank Holiday Monday.

It is staged on Hoylake Promenade and among the attractions will be air displays from the Yakovlevs and the Spitfires to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

There will also be a funfair, charity stalls, street theatre, raffles, and tours of the Lifeboat.

There will be aircraft displays from 12 noon with Wingwalkers performing daredevil twists and turns.

Spitfire displays will take place at 2pm and 4.15pm.

A twister Duo-Russian Yaks aircraft at 3.30pm

The Lifeboat will be situated on the promenade and visitors will be able to climb aboard for a look around.

There will also be a chance to win a VolksWagon car-by throwing dice or buy a raffle ticket for a mountain bike.

Admission to the event is free, but because of the huge number of visitors that are expected to attend, Hoylake Promenade will be closed to vehicles.

Use of public transport is recommended. Hoylake and Manor Road railway stations are 10 minutes' walk from the event.

At least the weathers good this year. The last couple of years have been dismal. Last year the red arrows had to abort their display half way through because of poor visibility. I might head down there later with the camera.

That Spitfire is a two seater reconisance model, I saw it on the telly recently and it's owmed and flown by a woman who's owned it about 17 years.

Spitfire fans (or anyone else, for that matter!) might like to take a peek here, for some info & pictures of one of the very "few" remaining (Supermarine 509 Spitfire T9, G-CTIX / PT462 / SW-A):

Lovely photos uptoncx - thanks for posting!

Is it just me, or is it daft holding this event on the same day as the Mathew St fest and the Food and Drink fest? I would have liked to go along to Hoylake but after doing F&D in the morning and Mathew St in the afternoon I was all fested out!

Brilliant pics Upton, holding events on the same day is not a problem, people will prioritise whats the most important to them, to some, the work the Lifeboats do and supporting them is of greater importance.

God help us,
Come yourself,
Don't send Jesus,
This is no place for children.
