I moved back here from Australia, when I was 10 in 1971 and lived in Sidney Road, which was just about 100 yards from St.Lukes, the church and school were in a derelict state then,we used to play there all the time as kids.
I particularly remember we all said it was haunted by Nuns, three older lads stayed out one night to look for ghosts, one lad was found by his mother fixed to the spot and very very scared in the early hours of the morning. That lad was never the same again,I still see him about now and I'm reminded of that time due to his state of inebriation now.

This is a sketch of St Winifred Church, Westbourne Road. Foundation stone laid on 15 May 1890.

St Lukes church was next to mersey mount, on the oposite side of Old Chester road from Beaconsfield road. New blocks of flats have just been built on the site of the church as well as on Mersey mount.

I was wondering if it was possible to use the pictures of St. Luke's Church for my Family History website. My paternal grandparents were married here in 1949 and I would love to share these photo's with the rest of my family on my site. I would of course link back to this forum.

I have contacted the reference library to see if I could get any photographs of the church pre-demolition, but they told me they haven't got any on record. I found this forum after I requested any help with finding photos of the church from the RootsChat website. Luckily someone seen my post, pm'd me and pointed me in the direction of this site.

Anyway, enough babbling from me.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post,

Regards,

Emma

I can manage Holy Trinity, St Laurence's and St Paul's. I would love to see pictures of St Peter's, St John's, St Matthew's

Shame holy trinity was demolished in 1976. It was a lovely building, wonder what happened to the organ?
