Hi, I'm new to Wirral and was looking for a place, other than Blockbuster to rent films.

I'm in Bromborough and can't seem to find any around locally. Neighbours have said that there were many here in years gone by, both here in Brom and in Eastham too. I've checked Yellow Pages, but it seems a little out of date.

I was a Lovefilm member but was fed up of things getting sent that I really didn't want, and as for Sky I'd rather pay them as little as possible. Where I used to live, in Nottingham there was a great little place that would have EVERYTHING !

Anyone any ideas ? Sorry to drone on on my first post !! Thanks.

The only BB's I know of nowadays is in Birkenhead and Moreton - would have thought there would be one up your way but maybe not.. I thought there used to be a video shop around the Eastham/Brom area, not far from Carlett Park, having said that, I don't know where I got the thought from, I just recall seeing one around that area a few years ago whilst driving around there.

In the same vein as Lovefilm, you can get Blockbuster online. I seem to remember they had quite the selection.

Thanks Matt, apparently the Eastham / Brom ones have closed down now. I'm really trying to stay away from Blockbuster as I prefer to shop Independent. Thanks anyway though !!

i haven`t seen a video shop other than blockbuster for a while.

Tbh, i`d rather buy than rent, they`re quite cheap nowadays, even blu-ray has dropped in price smile

I know Ste, it looks like they have gone the way of the Record Shop. I used to buy loads of DVDs, but to be honest barely watched them more than once, so in our last house move got rid and went back to renting.

Thanks Rudebox. I'll give that a go. Looks like we've missed the boat on moving near a proper old style Video Shop.

Thier all run by Lovefilm though... and iirc, Lovefilm only allow you to have one free trial per address in x amount of months. Some of their satellite providers do allow you to tral their service even after tralling another Lovefilm service, but no all.

Quite how the competition commission never did anything about Lovefilm buying up all the competition (ScreenSelect etc are all gone) is beyond me, but I guess thats what happens sometimes, and now they have monopoly over the industry in the UK.

There used to be a DVD/Video Rental shop on Cross Lane in Bebington, not sure if it's still there. It's 2 or 3 shops up form the coop. Was still there 6 months ago!

Thanks Nigel / Maisie. I think that's by the Grammar school isn't it ? I'm up that way tomorrow so I'll call in. Judging from their website & Facebook page they seem just what I'm looking for. I'll give it a shot ! Cheers.
