Unless they gave you a certificate of destruction, what exactly do you expect to happen? Are you expecting the scrapyard to give you some more money or something?? Or are you expecting to get the car back? so many nice people trying to help this chap out and give him information and then you get other totally cocky and not needed posts. please give this guy some respect and help instead of speaking down to him. Seems quite a straightforward question to me, and it seems like he is a sore-loser. He decided to take the easy route and sell the car, instead of fixing it (or at least didnt have the funds to do so), the person/business that bought it, has the right to do exactly what they want with it, if they want to fix it up and sell it on, thus making a profit in the process, that is their decision. I've bought plenty of cars in my time, at ridiculous low prices, almost to the point where ive felt guilty paying such little amounts; if I decide to then sell that car on at a higher price, then it is no business of the former owner. Especially if they need to sell fast, I have the wods of cash sitting there to get them out of their hole when they most need it, I don't expect them to come back moaning when they have recovered financially and say "I want the difference you sold the car for as it was mine and I sold it to you cheaper than market value" - nope, my name was on the V5, not the previous owners. What would he do if he were to sell a car to a deal part-ex for less than the book price, only to drive past a few days later and see it on the forecourt for almost double what they paid him in part-ex value, go in and kick off. A dealer/mechanic/scrappy takes a risk every time they buy a car, they may not make back what they paid for it, depending on the car, im pretty sure they don't go kicking off on customers asking for more money on the odd occasion they lose money on a deal. The guy couldn't afford to fix it/felt it was uneconomically viable, they bought it off him, they did him the favour, not the other way round. They may have been quoted £500+ to fix the car, the scrapyard owner may have incurred costs of less than half that, that doesnt mean the former owner should get the difference back. I agree with you. It's sort of business that they(scrap dealer) are in. Everyone feels likewise when they go of the deal like in the context.

Very well in hindsight, but maybe you should have jumped on the roof and given the rear 1/4 pannels a good kicking - that would have rendered it "scrap"

He might not have got 140 notes for it then Chewy, some scrap dealers pay higher than others, with the intent of simply repairing the car and selling it on, instead of destorying the car.
It's not rocket science to work out which bit of the V5 corresponds with the type of sale you are taking part in, however it appears some people do have difficulty/are ignorant and then it comes back to bit them in the bum!

Dents or no dents its always the same weight. Also, when scrapped it can still be used for parts, just the shell cant be used (if in the right catagory), so it shouldnt have effected the value as "scrap"

Also, when scrapped it can still be used for parts, just the shell cant be used (if in the right catagory), so it shouldnt have effected the value as "scrap" Yeah I meant, if other scrap dealers were offering say 90 notes on the weigh-in value of the car etc, and then someone came along and offered 140 notes, they would probably be doing that with the intention of at least stripping it down for valuable parts, or alternatively selling it on (which gets even better values from scrap yards). If they think they can say drop an engine in, cost them £100 notes to do, and the car can be sold at a decent price, they will do so, and offer a bit more to buyer, so if they had dented the bodywork all over, given the scrap yard wanted to fix it to sell, they might not have offered so much. Of course its all based on assumption, and yep Chewy, assumption is the mother of all fook ups haha!

I do that myself when i have scrapped a car in the past. I knock the shit outta the body, hole the floor and roof especially, not worth the hassle of repairs then! The difference is if it is sold as SPARES/REPAIRS or SCRAP. I do a lot of work in McCoys scrap and some of the cars DRIVEN in are unbeleivable. But they are for SCRAP only and not broken for parts. They dont sell parts and the cars then just get fragged (shredded!!) in their new TOY.
