Don't see why people just don't fill it in and send it. As an historian I can see why the Census are important. In 100 years time there will be people wanting to track their ancestors down too.

Some people see it as an invasion of privacy, also with recent blunders from the dvla flogging details etc people have lost faith in handing over personnel imformation.

Up to £1000 fine if they chase you up mate I dont see the problem anyways, the info they request isnt sensitive, and most of it they have already. I think a lot of the info they are gathering is about living habits, not how much info they can store about you and then use against you

Exactly, They (whoever they are) dont really need that info for our gains do they. And why do they need it so bad to enforce a fine if you dont complete it?

I think that the figures from the census are also used when the local authorites are given money from government. Therefore the more that dont reply the less money the councils receive.

You're liable for a total of six visits to encourage you to fill it in and then the heavies will possibly be sent in. At the end of the day it is best to fill it in because the figures are required to organise funding and building. It is anonymous anyway and they can't share names and addresses, they are only interested in the figures. I wish I could afford to risk £1K, but I wouldn't risk it on not filling a form in.

the only reason i or my wife don't want to fill it in is because last time a gave my details to the job centre plus when i was out of work they past my details on to people who i didn't want to have my address.
so i just dont want this to happen again.

Can also be done online, and is generally quicker with less questions.
