Yes, there does indeed appear to be one, a very important one. Brackenwood Golf Course now stands on the land where it was fought. See this article for more information: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article404324.ece

Hi Bushnut, Brackenwood is just pure speculation, there's nothing at all to suggest a battle was fought there. It would be nice if it was though!
However, you can go to Rowton Heath outside Chester, which was the site of a big Civil War battle. Also, Birkenhead on a Saturday night has many.

If you are going metal detecting then I doubt you will be allowed near an old battlefield no matter where they are. There used to be lots of fights in New Brighton when I was a kid so you could try there.

Hey there leelad, for someone who's into metal detecting you don't seem to know much about history! I'm starting to lose track of all your requests for possible locations!! Maybe you need to dig into a few books first! Keen as you are mate don't forget that you can't go digging up scheduled monuments like ancient castles & battlefields!! If you still haven't joined a club yet, check out the 'National Council for Metal Detecting' web-site there's loads of sound advice on there.

I didn't realise this was a request for metal detecting sites. I suggest you leave well alone. Go to a beach or somewhere were you're not going to destroy any potential archaeology.

Upper Parliament Street ? Lol The latest speculation is that the Battle of Brunanburh took place in the fields between Storeton Village and Storeton Woods. This area is actually called the 'Battlefields'. Wirral Archeology are doing research on this.

Are any of the Wirral Archaeology people professional archaeologists? Clicking on the link and looking at their picture, they seem older than the stuff they're investigating.

I would have thought a tactic at that period of time one of armies would have been on the high ground forcing the other to attack uphill which depended on who got there first (as in the battle of Hastings - Senlac Hill?)

The problem with that Derek is that if you arrive on the hill first, you are very easy to seige. The enemy can surround the hill and wait, they have access to the outside world and sustenance, but those on the hill haven't.

I don't think they had a siege mentality where armies were face to face - wasn't it recorded that the battle was over in a day
ps haven't read the Wirral mags yet but your pen is ready to be picked up thanks
