Poodlepup, the Old Colonial has the same address as The Grapes. In Gore's directory and the Wirral Hundred it has it as 167 Bridge Street im positive of that.

When I first started looking for pubs I didn't know where the pub was and was wandering around that area looking for pubs and so I could remember where it was I wrote down the street name handiest for it, the Cleveland st bit was to remind me Taylor st was the 3rd st on the right down Cleveland st starting from Argyle st end of Hamilton Square. Didn't notice any Bridge st sign around there. Will try to amend address when I get around to re-doing the list

I use to drink in the Shakespear in the early 1960s. Had many a stay behind after closing time in those days. The manager was a mate of one of my mates hence the stay behinds.
I'm sure my Mum and Dad ran the Shakespeare in the 60's for a very short time. I knew it was somewhere near the Tunnel entrance but never knew quite where. Thanks for the info.

Any info about this photo...what year etc? I recognise the kid in the middle row to the left...that's John Smith, Billy Smiths son...I'll make him a copy .or even better if you could send me the jpeg and I'll print it out for him.

Would anyone know if a picture of The Shakespeare pub exists anywhere? My Mum and Dad ran it from around 1963 and I lived there as a baby. I'd love to get hold of something. If anyone can help, thank you.
