Hi

Im hoping someone on here can advise me on our troublesome Vauxhall corsa. Bit of a long story but we got home from holiday on 16th July, car had been sat on boyf mum n dads driveway for a week. During that week the car had been moved very briefly to another space on the drive but when we got in to drive it once back it was dead. Gave it a few goes and absolutely nothing. Gave it a few mins and all of a sudden it came to life and was fine. So we drove to asda n came back it after shopping, the car started but the car & spanner symbol lit up and there was very little power in it 2 revs at most so we had to call the RAC bloke who said it was the throttle body. We have had it in Kelvin Motors since Wednesday last week who has had and sent back one 2nd hand throttle body, then tried to fit a brand new one today and its not fixed it. They ran tests on it for two days that pointed towards the throttle body and now they are saying its the ECU and apparently they have spoken to Vauxhalls and they are saying it sounds like that too. Neither myself or my boyf have any car knowledge but apparently this is a dealer issue only and it has to go to vauxhalls and could cost £1,000 plus labour and re coding frown

Please can someone say there is another way! Im currently trying to route out the RAC sheet with the codes on....

Thanks

Michelle

Sounds like the symptoms that occur with a fault with the Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF Sensor)

Try Vaux care by Lairds - they are dealer trained, but not dealer prices wink

Quite right, try disconnecting the maf and see if there's a change.
(some engines will not run disconnecting the maf)

Has the battery been off at all?

Hi Michelle_Louise,

I'm having exactly the same problem with my 05 Corsa.

Did you get yours sorted? What was it in the end? I hope it didn't cost you too much.

Thanks,
Gareth

Interesting true anecdote..
In Spain the Corsa was marketed as the Nova. It never sold very well-cos in Spanish "No Va" means "doesn't go!" Ha!! Talk about lost in translation!!

If this is the twinport engine then the following DOESN'T apply, but on the previous suzuki engine the timing chain used to jump a gear and ecu couldn't understand what was wrong and came up with all sorts of error codes, this was caused by a mixture of a stretchy chain and a poor tensioner design.

If its not the twinport engine then I can give more details. Being 2005 it shouldn't be but it may be a 2004 model in which case it could.

I had similar on a BMW. I tried replaceing the O2 sensors, plugs and disconnecting the MAF. Take it to one of the recommend garages and get it tested otherwise you'll be replacing parts unnecessarily. Mine turned out to be the crank sensor. The car lacked power as the ECU goes into "limp home mode" when it detects an out of range value from one of the sensors.

Hi. Bit late, but common problem on the Corsa C.

Crank Position sensor. Remove it, and you may notice the tip is no longer flat.

For the life of me, I cant remember the reasoning behind it. However, the result being the sensor is worn away, and the car will be difficult to start. When it is, applying the throttle usually stops the engine.

Will need to be a rocker cover off job Im afraid
