With the conversion of the mill to appartments, and the Wirral Waters plans, Peel said the Historic Warships couldn't stay were they were (parking etc). Around the same time the charity that ran the Historic Warships attraction had their major benefactor withdraw financial support, so they couldn't actually afford to move to another site.
Though, had they been able to raise the money, I believe they had planned a river-side site near Cammell Lairds (Egerton Dock or Albert Dock would have been better choices IMO).

I used to do maintenance work at Volclay when it was open. It was a horrible, gungy place-full of dust and grease, so I think knocking it down and building something nice and aesthetic can only be good for the Wirral and the view from Liverpool.
