A SONNET? by FiremanFil

Goldurn it; doggone it
I can't write a sonnet
It's difficult when I try
To balance words out
Evenly, but without
Ever getting my fourteen lines.
My train of thought's gone
Before line number one
Has been written to start the ode
There's a terrible pain
In my sterilised brain
Won't somebody share the load?
Goldurn it; doggone it
I just CAN'T write a sonnet!!

This one is for you TR

Fairy Dreams

Tiny little fairies, all tucked up in beds,
Mother reading stories to fill their weary heads,
Flutter lashes drooping, a little eye may peep,
Softly, gentle lullabies will settle them to sleep.

Stardust dreams are drifting in, of their days at play,
Stroking baby lady-birds which can't yet fly away,
Holding hands and dancing, around the mulberry bush,
Flying, whistling, singing with a mistle thrush.

Seeking feathery grasses, making nests for tiny birds,
Threading giant daisy chains, humming songs without the words,
Mini boats of lily pads, winding down the stream,
Sweets and treats of candy sticks, 'pippy nuts' and cream.

Suddenly the wind blew hard, circles going faster,
Rocking, tossing, tiny ones, this could be disaster!
"Catch some sticks to paddle with before we lose our way,
Paddle hard, paddle fast, back home to Twinkly Bay".

"Now we're back and on dry land, let's hurry home for tea,
Past our little elfin friends sitting in their tree".
Mother said, "What have you done? Your wings are wet and cold,
Your golden curls are tossed about.... your story must be told!".

Just then, they heard their mother call, "Fairies, wake up now,
The sun is shining brightly through the apple blossom bough".

"The window's open...feel the breeze,
The butterflies are in the trees,
Smell the scented morning air,
Get out of bed, you naughty pair".

"What are you going to do today?"

Said they...."we're going out to play".

Sorry Fil, didn't mean to ignore, just couldn't share your load in the early hours of the morn. Very good, is that a new one or another from your collection? We just keep on waiting for more. I find it difficult to write like that, I'm still stuck on rhyme, probably induced by Rupert The Bear!

Yes, granny. Wrote it years ago. I put my poetry pen away for a while to concentrate on writing novels and plays. Then I suddenly realised that I'd have to try working for a living!! :-) Still do a lot part-time, though.

Here is a romantic piece that I wrote for my wife's 40th birthday. It accompanied a bouquet of 40 red roses; 16 different coloured roses; two white carnations (representing our two boys) and a chocolate heart attached to the basket. Shows what a creep I am!

40 TODAY!!

Here are 40 roses
One for each year of your life
And sixteen others, coloured
For the years you've been my wife
Among them, two carnations
For the perfect seeds we've sown
And finally, a heart from me
With love that's grown and grown!! xx

You are such a romantic at heart. That's lovely, just what a girl needs.Your wife is so lucky. My 40th was clinched with a boquet which had been in a car boot for over 24 hours!
How about starting a topic of 'How to Love the Love of your Life' or something like that.

Sounds like a good idea, Granny. But I'm certainly not going to tell other folks how to be like me!! lol. I think you will have enough feedback on that subject to write a book. (by the way, I like your poetry too!!) :-)

Silly one (based on a joke I was told some years ago)

BUTTERFLIES

Two caterpillars sunbathed idly on a lettuce leaf
A lovely butterfly flew past and winked at them beneath
One turned unto the other with his face a fearful red
"You'll never get ME up in one of those!" he quietly said!!

PLEASE COME BACK

I’ve been to Church and said my prayers
For Fireman Fil tonight;
A little voice in comfort said,
‘Now don’t give up the fight’.

Soooooooo

Please come back, you love to chat
Of this and that and ‘tother,
A Solid, sound and generous man,
You’re just like our big brother.

Fireman Fil, whatever next,
Why can’t we take a joke ?
They have their place we understand,
But you’re a smashing bloke.

It’s understood you made mistakes
And sometimes crossed the line,
Look at it light heartedly,
Just come back one more time.

You may be bruised and feeling bad,
We need you back once more,
Enthusiasm, fun and wit
Is what we’re crying for.

The bell it tolls for one last time;
I hope it falls and breaks,
And then, please, Fireman Fil return
To wiki and your mates.

Come Back You'll be Missed Very Much. We're all blubbing away and spiraling into depression!!

Unfortunately he's resigned. So he may see this, and change his mind. Hopefully.
