Yes I would definitely miss them. It's a sorry state of affairs that there's so many fewer places to have a drink with friends and meet new people these days. In my youth (about 20 years ago) we used to go from: The Dale, to The Sandbank, La Banque, Five Bars, PA, Leasowe, Seacobme Ferry. Out of these 7 there's only 2 left! There are many, varied and debatable reasons for this sad decline in pubs. 1) The economy in general 2) Changing attitudes 3) Smoking ban 3) And most importantly, imho, the breweries/landlords demanding £x profit when supermarkets can sell it so cheaply. If the breweries didn't want so much profit pubs could charge cheaper prices, get more customers and stay in business. They're currently open from 9am (Wetherspoons) til about 1/2am (Five Bars) and have to pay staff to be on duty plus all of their other overheads. The breweries will end up cutting their noses off to spite their faces, no customers, no pubs, no profit. Obviously supermarkets can sell alcohol more cheaply and always have done but I don't think the difference has ever been so great or felt so keenly. Answers to this quandry on a postage stamp please

Used to love The Leasowe pub back in the day-maybe 15 years ago. Knew everybody. Stormin Norman at the Le Banque was happy days!

Jees you birds are showing your age lol Not really, they are youngsters talking about modern pubs such as the Sandbank and La Banque. I remember when they were proper banks. No mention of the Stanley in that list either. Breweries don't care because they can sell to supermarkets without the overheads of running a pub. To be honest, I would rather sit at home and drink my beer without worrying if some knob has smelt the barmaids apron and wants to pick a fight. Smoke in peace if you want and of course it is much cheaper. Used to love the pubs but not any more!

I still enjoy the odd pint or 3 in some of New Brighton's old pubs. But there can't be many pubs left surely that belong to a brewery, aren't they all run by "brewco's" like Enterprise Inns?

the only pubs that seem to survive are food type places, bring back the proper locals--where we knew everyone, played darts and domino's for the pub, and there are lounge and bar,no atmosphere in the wetherspoon type pubs, you are a unknown customer in here.

I think the Spoons in Liscard might know some of their customers judging by the same people waiting for it to open at 9am every day!

I'd miss the ones with cheap drinks! Some charge the earth for double, those can go.
