There was an electrical explosion on the line causing the train and station to fill with smoke. Everyone evacuated as a precaution. Very treacherous out.lord knows how anyone will get home from town tonight now. No buses either. The sad irony was the fritters turned up at the same time as the fire engines.

Thanks for the update Sharpster!
Noticed there was another fire engine and ambulance staff around too. Dreadful in this weather.

Yes a poor man slipped outside and split his head open. He was Quite shook up. It was quite scary on the train but thankfully , apart from the poor man outside, there were no injuries.

Poor man, hope he is ok. Does look dangerous out there. Hope people are able to find alternative ways home.

My sister was on the Chester/Ellesmere port train with her dog at Hamilton Sq when a massive explosion went off. Someone working at the station ran out telling everyone to get out, then the whole station filled with smoke. Sounds like a electrical fire. I think it was the New Brighton train or the track. Hopefully no one was hurt. Everyone was running up around 15 flights of stairs. Unfortunately there were no taxi's available for 2 hours.

Was only the breakers for the electrical supply kicked in due to the amount of snow on the collector shoes of the train caused a fault, this gives you the large amount of smoke and sets alarm panel off.
