I'd like to propose an idea for a "walk" for those of us who can't, or choose not to, walk very far. It's something I do from time to time, although for me it involves a trip up by train. It's based on using the great value Saveaway ticket on Merseytravel, which now costs £4.80 for the day. Here's an example.
Starting from Birkenhead bus station, take the 437 West Kirby bus and get off at Upton Rd./Noctorum Lane. Walk down the Thermopylae Pass (which is actually the old road from before the Ford Hill road was built). Stop off to look at the remains of Bidston Court at Vyner Rd., then continue and pick up the bus again at the bottom and go to West Kirby; maybe walk to the shore. Then take the train to Hamilton Square, walk to Woodside and get the ferry to the Pier Head. Have a look round the Museum of Liverpool and Albert Dock, then walk through Liverpool 1 to Central station, and get the train back, or take the bus back through the tunnel.
Sometimes I go to New Brighton instead: there are endless possibilities. The Saveaway is valid as far as Southport or Chester on the train, on the buses and the ferry. Great value as the ferry alone is £4.70.
This is obviously a full day and preferably a Saturday, although I usually do it on a weekday. I usually have a beer/coffee at West Kirby and Liverpool 1.
For me, this is a Spring or Summer trip. I just throw out the idea now for people to think about.

Carpe diem.

Wow.....Thanks trancentral.....this place looks fascinating, have passed those gates loads of times on Upton Road, thought they just led to someone's house !!
Can anyone just walk around this area any time ?, don't want to trespass smile
Is that lovely old house just sitting there empty and abandoned ?
Can't believe this has been round the corner from where I used to live for 28 years and I never knew it existed !! smile

It was Derek that brought the idea of a BUS PASS day out, which worked out pretty much as a All Zone Ticket which is about £4.70 for the day and travel. Then Chris says that he uses the ticket when he comes up and visits.

The Idea is that the weather isnt great.
Its a bit unpredictable for long walks so why not have the shelter of a train. With the All zone tickets you get on the buses and the ferry too. So no matter what the weather is like its a day out and your bound to get warm at a few points.

I went through to Southport butties in my bag and a flask it was a great ride out on the train and killed a good few hours before i knew it.

If we get a few people intrested in the idea we can make it happen and have a fun day out at the same time.

P.s. A Family Ticket is just a tad under a tenner If I remember?
That's 2 Adults and 3 Kids
