After reading wiki post I got to thinking about stocks and pillories as punishments and came across a Wikipedia reference that there are/were stocks in Irby. Can anyone confirm this. Why did these things fall out of use? Early form of human rights by do-gooders?

There are stocks just outside the library, as to anything about them I've no idea although I did send some pictures of them to friends in the USA a year or so back.

I think they appeared not long after the library was opened. They were there when I was a kid, anyway .
