Pug 306's, anything up to 1.8 petrol or 1.9TD are all cheap insurance, fairly reliable (esp. the diesels), nippy, cheap to run, fun to drive etc etc. Ideal for younger drivers imo.

How old are ya fella. 2k will see u an Escort GTI. Insurance is higher than most but its worth the extra IMO (especially since you wont spend the full 2k on the car)
Other good cars are Escort 1.8Si (same car without the bodykit,5 spoke GTI rims, and leather)306s are also good little hatches. Mk4 astras (may not be that cheap tho yet) Fiestas,Civic EG 1.5s
Theyre ll good cars IMO.

Escort RST then? Punto GTs are not worth the hype fella. Nippy is all they are, theyre not fast and u sure as hell wont see 200+BHP for under a grand.Aldo theyre mingin outside and in.My opinion. and being fiat engines, not much demand for aftermarket tuning.
EDIT: As for your VTI for 2k. Good luck,i found it hard gettin a clean LSi/ESi for under that a few months ago

r5 gtt blow up quite easily, so i am led to believe. Punto's aint to great, but are nice and quck.
You £2k might stretch to a civic VTI
