Why are they selling laptops without a dvd player in?
How do I install football manager disc for my son and does the disc have to stay in to play it?
Not sure whether to use an external dvd but if using it elsewhere you wouldn't have one handy
Back to Argos again to try and do a swap again

Not got anything against Argos
My son went and bought it
I usually buy most of my goods over £200 from John Lewis Liverpool and usually get a 5 year guarantee thrown in for free on some of them

Because with the age of cloud computing and downloads, less and less people are using dvd drives. You do know you can simply download FM and play it that way, you don't always need the disc. Laptops without a dvd drive can also therefore be thinner, lighter and ultimately cheaper.

My girlfriends laptop (asus) doesn't have a dvd drive and it weighs about the same as a pencil sharpener, the battery life is also phenomenal. She's a freelance music journalist and therefore doesn't want a big bulky laptop to be lugging around everywhere like gigs and interviews With artists/bands. It all depends on need, if you definitely NEED a dvd drive either buy an external one or return the laptop for one with a dvd drive. But ask yourself the question and answer it honestly. Is it absolutely necessary to have one built in?

Most games are purchased online now and you install it on your device that way. They install a checker to make sure your purchase is a legal copy.

Sorry to say but Since Windows 8 Dvd drives are a thing of the past. Its either on a memory stick or downloaded or external drive.

Its always handy to have an external DVD Drive in the house as you never know when you may need one, so having a external DVD Drive is a good investment as they are cheap enough now.

Hope that helps.

Your game may need to check against the disc to play so you need to read the requirements on the back of the football manager game.

Hi, if you have another computer in the house pop the disk in that computer and either rip it to a sub stick or share the dvd drive then access it from the new laptop.

My vote is disc less but each to their own smile

DVD drives definately still have their place especially for 'burning' discs. I have relatives that like to share family photos via CD/DVD as they can put it in their DVD/Bluray players when they dont have access to thumb drive technology.

I would stick with a computer without a DVD drive if you can. It will be smaller, lighter and cheaper as well as more reliable. Thumb drives are better in every respect. I have a 64GB one which will hold a dozen fully loaded DVD drives, and all you need is a USB port. All computers have those.

With the money saved, I'd consider a solid state drive too. You will get better battery life and better performance. They are much faster than hard disks. Better for fast start up and program loading and much better for games too. Unfortunately, still a bit pricy though they are falling in price steadily.

If you're talking about the proper footy manager game, you can download it via steam, which is the online thingy for the game (it also downloads updates to the game, patches etc). There's usually an authentication code on the game (box or manual, been a while!) - probably the only way around it

Although I advocate a place for a DVD drive for some users, on a personal level I would get a laptop without one at my next time of replacement but would have a portable read/writer at hand for when needed.

Would the laptop be powerful enough to actually run the game?

A descent midrange laptop with a half onboard descent graphics card, depending on memory will play games as well as a desktop pc. That's not to say all laptops are capable of playing pc games
