I suppose that means that they all have an i-phone6, a playstation and enough fast food to make them fat.

Child poverty? I've seen child poverty when I was going away and there isn't any here that's anything like it, except maybe for the loafers who are streaming into the country to leech.

As a single parent I have child minded in the day while pulling pints of an evening when they were young and as they were older driven taxis all hours of day and night to put a roof over our head and food on the table.
I find it hard to believe that so many people seem unable to grasp that until there are more people putting into the money pot than taking out things will only get worse, and whinging about the hard deal they get doesn't gain them any popularity points.

Child poverty exists even in rich families, just because its not visible in public does not mean that that children aren't living in poverty/squalor.

I know a millionaire whose kid's teeth were totally rotten, they had never been treated by a dentist, that kid didn't have an iphone 6 or virtually anything else.

I've come across kids where the school have to send teachers out to their home every day to get the kids dressed because the parents are in bed smacked out every morning - needless to say there was never any food in the cupboards and surprise surprise these kids haven't got an iphone 6.

I've come across kids under 12 who do everything in the household like cooking all the meals etc as well as looking after the younger siblings - no, you won't find them hanging around on street corners with their non-existent iphone 6.

There are kids that go early to school and have a shower because there is never any electricity or soap at home.

Child poverty exists but it isn't always in the form that you immediately think off. Just because some parents take family responsibility seriously does not mean that all of them do and just because a parent isn't in poverty it doesn't mean the children aren't.

"I don't see it outside my gate" does not justify generalisms on a national scale.

Parents being forced to be away from home to earn a crust for their family is not a solution, it is a moral wrong!

Yeah DD, I read all about that too. Like I've said before and elsewhere, I've travelled the world quite a bit and believe you me I've seen real poverty and it's not anywhere I've been in UK, even in the bad old 40's and 50's which was bad enough. But then again we were recovering from a war.

The kids you describe, DD, truly have my sympathy; no child should have to live like that. Why doesn't the Council step in, remove them and place them with foster parents who would love them?

Its difficult, if there is no active emotional/physical abuse and there is still clear emotional attachment then as it is a stable family unit (with reservations) they have to balance the trauma of separation (especially with multiple siblings) against the damage currently being done. Some of the social workers were brilliant but there is always a limit to how much time they can put in for each family.

l don't get angry anymore, just pished off. What's done is done and nothing can be recalled. I still remember the sheer bloody mindedness of them though and am well versed with the rackets they pull. Why people still believe the propaganda I just can't fathom. I believe what I observe not what I'm told.

I don't think there are any real closed shops now apart from some acting jobs and associated industries. The Wapping Dispute just about put paid to them.

There were some good reasons for some closed shops (not all) but it got totally out of control and the Government should have legislated years before hand.

Unions like the Labour party got infiltrated with ultra-left wingers and/or thugs, there were plenty of losers and no winners out of these things happening.

I know smoking so a big no no now but cigarettes, which enjoyed a lot more popularity then, were 20p for 20. Today, average price for a packet of cigarettes is now £7.98

some things have even risen for the better. In 1970, the average life expectancy in Britain was 72. Today, it is 77 - giving us five more years of spending.

in the 70s we had Factories that most of us worked in, we had mines there was fishmongers in every town same as butchers and real bakers who made bread, there was a pub on every street where you could walk in a say our Fred is looking for a job and 10-20 people would say I need someone.

2015 not many Factories around now (I can only think of two)
Tulips and the chicken one in Deeside I know vauxhalls ellesmere port but it's keeps letting people go only to sign them back up months later, fishmongers in most supermarkets like butchers and bakers, go In a pub today and say our Fred is looking for a Job and all you'll get is some smartass saying another Dole ..., or a glass in your face.

I could sit and Dwell on the past but lets look at the now

foodbanks, the red cross asking for money for the uk, kids going to school where that's the only meal they will get, yes we can all say WELL I'VE GOT A JOB, but now many of us can say there job is for life? we could all lose our jobs/partner.

Bread is slightly dearer now.
Houses are a lot dearer now.
Range Rover is a lot dearer now.
Mini is a lot dearer now.
Cinema is a lot cheaper now.
Whisky is a lot cheaper now.
Lager is about the same price.
Cigarettes are a lot dearer now.
