Thats a nice motor mate, don't see many of these knockin round and its in fairly good nick. I love old school cars, gotta lot more character then all the new stuff. Looked at gettin a chevette a while back an throwin a red top engine in it, old school and drifty!!!

Love the Mk1 Astras, got so much more character than the new ones. Any plans for a red top conversion, or even a slightly simpler 2.0 8V transplant from a Cav SRi? Still 130bhp from the 8V, but Im pretty sure the Mk1 aint that heavy

...anything will fit if you have enough ££££ The HSR was the Rally daddy, but very unreliable. The Rover V8 only put out 150bhp, but made a nice sound, and the 8V Sierra DOHC motor wouldnt pull you out of bed - tbh if you where going to fit a new motor to a Chevette, go redtop or Cosworth DOHC and stick them on TBs

...anything will fit if you have enough ££££ so they wouldn't just drop sraight in then, or would they - but with new engine mounts, loom, engine managment, drive shafts etc etc

It would need a custom front subframe, the transmission tunnel may need modding to fit a gearbox to suit the engine, then you need a diff to suit, which may include a new rear axle. The original car was on carbs, so it would need an ECU and loom, unless you stuck with a carb setup... Im pretty sure you would need to seam weld the shell also as a std Chevette was never designed to take much power - with the HSR being the exeption but that was seam welded from the factory for rallying.
