Hello - does anyone know anything about the Zieglers in Oxton? I've seen records of Alexander C Ziegler who I think lived on Talbot Road, Laura Ziegler who was married to William H Ziegler who lived on Bidston Road - William is buried in Flaybricks. I'm interested in finding out about where they came from, what they did and where they lived - does anyone know anything about them? I found an entry on ancestry but the name is spelt ZieglAr and I'm not sure if that's either correct or the same person.....?

I suspect he is the son of William Henry Ziegler, a Farmer in Landican.

Thank you, Bert. I have William H. Ziegler as being born in Woodchurch in 1857, but on his grave stone it says 1856 (5th July), he's buried in Flaybrick. His death is written on his tomb as 1896. I know he married Laura Hamilton Paton who was from Ontario I believe, they were married in New York. Then I have an entry for John Hasting Ziegler who was born in July 1851 and died in Birkenhead 31st October 1927.
I also have a record of Alexander C Ziegler born in 1884 - was he William's son do you think?
Where do you access the censuses? Is it via Ancestry?

Yes Ancestry but there are other places that are useful.
Alexander Caryl Zeigler, born 1883 Birkenhead, mothers maiden name, Evastaphiev.
Parents, John Hasting Zeigler, Charlotte C Evastaphiev.
Charlotte was born in the USA and I assume they married over there.

When I used to go to Shaftesbury Boys Club in Birkenhead one of the 'houses' there was called Ziegler

That's interesting, I haven't heard of the Shaftesbury Boys Club - whereabouts was that, and when did you go? I wonder where the Zieglers came from and how they were all related - they seemed to live in various roads such as Cearns, Grosvenor, Shrewsbury, Bidston and Talbot. So, Aspinall died and J H Ziegler replaced him in 1891? So, in terms of the various family members of the Zieglers I have:
William Henry Ziegler - born in 1856/7 - died in 1896 - was married to Laura Paton Hamilton who apparently lived at no. 54 Bidston Road for a while.
John Hasting Ziegler - born in 1851 - married Charlotte Evastaphiev - WAS JOHN BROTHER TO WILLIAM?
Alexander C Ziegler - born 1883, Charlotte Ziegler - born 1886, John Hasting Ziegler - born 1889 and Edith Ziegler - born 1890 - so all children of John H Ziegler Snr and Charlotte Evastaphiev?
Did William and Laura have children does anyone know? Also, quite a coincidence that both William and John married North Americans.
