i had a thoight the other day, you said the engine in the 180 is the sr20det (i think).
isnt that the same engine that was in the 200sx s14a. if it is why step back to an older car with the same engine

Yes, the 180 does have the SR20DET, similar to the S14 and S14a. The 180 doesnt have the VVT (Variable Valve Timing) on the engine which was fitted to the later engines for emmission control - this loses you torque when you get over 5000rpm, it has a bigger inlet manifold and as its an RPS13 it doesnt need a CAT for the MOT. The RPS13 chassis is also lighter than the S14 chassis and weight distribution between front and rear is 50/50 rather than 53/47 (Front/rear) on the S14 as well as being more drag efficient The 180SX, with SR20DET makes 215bhp with a smaller, T25G turbo, (S14s have T28s) where as the S14 and S14a make 197bhp with a bigger turbo So basically, the earlier engine is more tunable due to recent emission changes on later engines, and the car is lighter and better balanced

all makes sense now.
bit odd about the tubo though, how do you get mor epower form a smaller turbo. then again the emissions changes must make a big difference, so the compensated by putting on a larger turbo but didnt have the same effect.
what size turbo you going for on the 180, same as the 200 or BIGGER.

The engine is just working more efficiently, so it can make more power without needing the bigger turbo to do it, slap a T28 on the 180 and you may get another 15-20bhp on the same boost as the T25G. Not sure about what turbo to go for yet. Looking at a T34 from a big turbo Escort Cosworth, but it is deffinatly going to be smaller than the one of the S14a. That was to big and made the car to undrivable, Id rather sacrifice 50bhp for drivability of the car. Im still going to go for a top mount set up though, with an external wastegate Its no good having huge power if you cant use it

Yup, LSD as std, though Ill prolly upgrade it to a 1.5way jaoobie at some point. Clocks are in kph and its limited to 112mph, but the speed limiter will be removed and clocks converted once in the UK

Garage is doing the derestriction for me and its getting std clocks, I found the plasma, though they look really nice, a bit too distracting when driving at night

Yeah, the std clocks only go to 180kph due to the speed limiter and the mph clocks (Like most cars) have a smaller kph dial.
