I found maggots in the bottom of my bin. That was after opening the lid and having a epic amount of flies shoot out. They are now sitting on top of the lid like mothers waiting outside a school in their 4x4s. I also completely forgot about the collection on Wednesday so it's another two barstard weeks til the next one! There's not much in the bin, so I'll empty the lot into a big bin bag and just annihalate everything with boiling water. I'm interested in a wormery, and the compost thing, I've just never got round to it. You can imagine the amount of money the council makes from garden waste recycling!

Tell you something.. Back in the day when bin collections where weekly we never ever had this issue.. Council's should start collecting the GREEN BIN again every week its stupid and its time to act.. The gray bin fortnightly YES cause this bin takes for ever to fill up cause most of the time we dont eat hundreds of crap im all for recycling cause there is alot of packaging but it takes me a month to fill it to the top theres no point in putting a half full bin which is the GRAY BIN out all the time what do the council want from me a full bin every 2 weeks dont they fu***n realise im human and not a pig!!!

I BLAME THE COUNCIL!!! i, too have a skanky bin and i have resentment issues towards the neighbours who pay £2 a week to pay some fella to clean their bins. I will not be socially manipulated!! And i aint got no maggets.

I am another manky bin with no livestock in it.I think it is the washing of the bin that is the problem, unless you dry it completely afterwards.I sometimes go four weeks of not putting it out and have not had a problem A wet bin with a plastic bag in it to ensure it stays damp sounds ideal breeding ground for flies.

Maybe my food waste is just not good enough for the local fly population? Maybe I should start shopping at M&S Food Hall? If only we had a Waitrose - the flies couldn't complain about the quality of my leftovers then!
