Seems like a lot a hassle for a lump of sandstone you can walk to whenever you want, tides permitting. I will just go on my own if there is 1 too many before the walk. you grumpy kev?!

What's to stop anyone following the ranger, listen to what he's saying, go on his tour, then wander off and do your own thing making sure you get back to land in time I'd like a couple of pics of middle isle just to see what we camped on one night years ago

i didnt think we were following the ranger? thought it would just be a case of himing being around to ask questions, if required. He'll probably have to stay near the telegraph station and his telescope.

The ranger is called Dave and I have met him a few times (my mate has just retired as the manager of the marine lake) and he was always down there. He is a good guy and really helpful. If you get the chance for him to take you round do it, it will be worth it.
See you in cyberspace!

How about I go over ahead of the rest and meet you all there. That way we don't have to worry about silly rules regarding permits. Knowing what Wikki walks are usually like we will be spread out all over the place and not in one group when we get over there anyway. There will be other people milling about there too.
Also I suggest people wear walking boots or wellies that is if you are willing to walk that far in them. Once the tide go's out there is usually 2 to 3 small channels of standing water that you have to go through. They are not deep but you might get your feet wet wearing trainers. In the summer its usually not a problem because the sun drys the beach quickly.

Don't worry about the tides Nigel. The tide times are posted on the information board at the windsurfing place. You can tell when it comes in because it fills up a large pool area in front of Hilbre for a while before it starts advancing across the beach. Even when it does you can out walk it as long as you don't dawdle and thats if the beach patrol have not already herded you away on their quad bikes.

There is a pay and display opposite the Toilets/windsurfing place or you could risk leaving it in Morrisons but I would just park on the prom or a side street for free. The Marine lake car park is supposed to be permit holders only during the day.

You can't do it with bare feet because of the weavil fish that can give you a nasty sting and lay jusy under the suface. Sunday 11 Hilbre Friends’ Day You can cross at any time after 12 noon BST and must start back no later than 5.00 pm BST
