Does anyone know where the victorian dumps where in the area. Old Gorsey Lane was a dump, but is too industrial to go for a dig these days.

Is old Gorsey Lane that one off of dock road? I was mooching around down there this weekend and didn't see anyone working there. Despite it being an industrial area maybe you could still dig there? The bottom end of that road is pretty overgrown and disused.

I seem to recall there was "supposed" to be one near Bidston Village, between the school and the motorway if that makes any sense.... near where the Corsair was?
When I was a kid, I was hanging around there with me mates, and there was a small team of archaeologists (doubt they were professional) digging there, bringing up allsorts of old pottery etc...

Yea, it has the auction house on it. Towards the top on the left was the site of one of the oldest dumps I know about. All the ground at the back has been levelled, they must be about to build some monstrosity there. It is hard to get into now. We used to go all the way to the top, where the disused area is, go through the bushes which overlook the motorway, if you squeeze through the fence about three or four steps away there was an opening in the railings.

This comes up regularly on here. Here is my stock reply copy n pasted from Marches thread.........
There are tons of them all over the place. My mate in work digs for bottles at sites of them. The bottle digging community are a secretive bunch and only reveal the where abouts of them after they can no longer be dug at. I do know theres one in Prenton by the flyover where the old pond used to be(they filled it with rubbish). There is also one under the new estate behind Somerville health centre on Gorsey lane Wallesy. I was working there when they where digging the foundations to the houses. You could literally see the layers of ceramic and glass in the trench walls. My mate (the bottle digger) was like a dog with two dicks. laugh Part of Sefton park is over one too I am lead believe.

They was one oposite the bowling green near the archers.
In the early 80s when they was building the bowling green house there they was putting the pipes in and i was amazed at what was turning up in the ground.
A limitless amound of victorian bottles and other interesting things even old perfume bottles.
The bottles i collected was the type with the ball in the neck and i presume quite valuable now,i brought a load home and for some unknown reason my nan binned the lot a few days later gutted thinking back.
Was defo used as some sort of dumping ground in the past i say victorian because of the type of bottles i found.

I've heard rumours of bottles being dug up on the big field near Leasowe lighthouse - the field people pitch tents on in summer.
Try your back garden if you have one - you'll be amazed what pops up in the soil. We found a load of clay pipes while digging a pond at my parents' house. The map showed that the land their house is on was known as brick fields (Claughton area).
