Right, I've decided that to get some decent sounds in my car I need to do some door pods, the front speakers are only 13cm standard so replacements in that size won't do enough for me. Rears are 16.5cm anyway!
My question is; what gives the best quality sound, 6x9's or 16.5cm units? I've heard 6x9's are better for base, is this true? coz I could do with some up front! Need to know what size to make my pods..

6x9s do give more bass than 16.5cm components of the SAME PRICE.But a nice expensive set of 16cms will kick arse bass wise. And 16cm will always beat 6x9s of the SAME PRICE quality wise. All depends just how much bass u want.If u want uber loud clean bass get components and subs,if u just want safely loud "feelable" music then a set of 6x9s could supply that bass for ya
Im into SQ so id always get compos and subs, never again 6x9s
And when gettin the 16cms make sure u get components, not 2 or 3 ways as they aint as good

I already have a sub and 500w amp in the back, but I'd like the bass to surround me as well as the music. If i spent £70 on a pair of 6x9s, how good d'ya think the quality would be? Can anyone recommend what to get for that price?

Seen some Kenwood "7x10s" for £75. Here's the tech spec: 7" x 10" Pearl Mica injection P.P. Cone with urethane surrounds 50 mm PEI midrange / 20 mm Balanced Dome tweeter 20 mm Dome super-tweeter Image enhancer technology (patent of Kenwood since 1989) Peak input power : 320 W Rated input power: 80 W Sensitivity: 93 dB Frequency response: 28 Hz ~ 30 kHz Cross-over frequency: 4 & 18 kHz Mounting depth: 82 mm Voice coil: 4 Ohm MagnetWeight: 440 gr They're 4-way speakers, are they worth buying? I'm not going to amp them, just run them off the headunit amp @ 53w max. How will that sound, coz these are 80w RMS

a set of components are designed to drive the mid bass and high notes, if u already got a sub i would recomend a set go 4 a set with a decent x over tho othere wise the tweeter will sound poo, also its worth powering them through an amp with equal rms value for optimim sound, as the head unit will never diliver enough power
