Anyone else noticed the Vodafone signal has gone, well, rubbish over the past few weeks? Specifically in Wallasey and near Arrowe Park. Don't get me wrong, it's never been great. But rather than bouncing between H and G, it now spends most of it's time on E. Vodafone's suggestion? Switch to 2G

Yup, for about 2 weeks now the signal in my house is really crap. I thought a mast may have been temporarily down but not so sure.....

Not had any problems on the work phone, but I don't spend much time around that area with it, also don't use it for net (the phone has 3G but it's set to GSM as that's all it needs and saves battery). Sounds like it's starting to go the way of o2 I moved to three and haven't looked back!! HSDPA is practically everywhere you go, at the very worst, you end up on 3G lol!!

Will also vouch that "3" are a brilliant network, I could never find a really good price deal for them so I'm stuck with O2 (yet to find a 3G signal) through giffgaff and also use orange.

Apparently there isn't a problem according to vodafone.
There is a voda mast in the grounds of the Rugby club on cross lane so I should have a super signal. I asked if the mast was working properly and she replied "we think so" LOL

But rather than bouncing between H and G, it now spends most of it's time on E. Just noticed what you said there, you do realise that Edge (E), whilst being a 2G technology (defined as 2.9G) is faster than GPRS (G) which is more commonly defined at 2.5G?? Maybe Vodafone have realised their transmitters are currently unable to blanket the Wallasey area with 3G and thus has opted for the next best thing, and optimized performance for Edge instead? If you were using GPRS in a lot of places, then EDGE would be a noticeable upgrade, so not all bad, but vs 3G (especially HSDPA area's) area's it would be a noticeable downgrade. In most cases, you should be using Opera Mini for web browsing anyway, even on a regular 3G connection, it significantly improves the speed. Of course for video's, EDGE is going to be tedious lol...
