i've got a modded marin pioneer trail 08/09 spec, upgraded the tyres, brakes, wheels, pedals and gears. not been proper mountain biking for a while due to work shame to see the bike sitting in the corner of the room not being used to it's full potential.

sounds decent... wheels and tyres will be next on the list after forks... fairly decent standard spec otherwise

If you know delamere like i do it is not boring at all ,there are some real good xc rides to be had there. As for Llandegla unless your wife is real fit .Its 2 far away to just do the green, and believe me the blue is and all the other routes are uphill for the first 3 miles it is a slow uphill but does get your legs. What sort of riding do you want if you fancy Delamere I can take you on a good ride there ,soem hard short uphills soem nice single track.

I ride a meta 552 and a Giant mcm ,also got a trek 4100 that I am selling soon .I have ridden most trail centres ie /llandegla gisburn /lee quarry/afan/coedy brenin/most of the 7 stanes/whinlatter/brechfa etc etc etc. Also ride the peaks a few time s a year .I did the hope valley mountain bike challenge a few years back and that was hard.Tried to ride jacobs ladder twice but like everybody else you end up waliking it.If anybody fancies a ride of a weekend let me know as I am out most weekends.

I don't like Delamere but as people have said, you need to know where you are going at that location. I prefer Llandegla- its as far I will go as travel time is a ball ache. Been a dad for two years now and miss the free time and choice when I can get out there- I try to compensate for my lack of opportunity by exploring the Wirral and finding at least something decent to ride up, down, over, drop off etc. Semi slicks on the hardtail for road/light trail fitness. Ride to work when I can. My Specialized Stumpy FSR comes out when I find some off road antics. There are various places to explore such as royden park, thurstaston common, over fields on the Wirral Way (can be boring and not allowed probably), storeton woods and linking via barnston dales. I just find anywhere to try and simulate a proper mtb ride LOL Then when I finally get the chance to do wales I have at least kept up my skills- getting too old really now anyway LOL

Theres plenty of places in wirral to ride, for a pleasure ride with wife and fam, theres the prom from woodside to meols/hoylake,theres parks and the wirral way.For a bit of off roading theres loads to choose from, footpaths, bridleways and trails off the beaten track in royden and arrowe park,Storeton woods is good for a mess about but you can only ride in one half of the woods. When i go out its usually with my mate and my brother and our main route takes us through arrowe park up to royden and thors rock, and from there up on to thurstaston common up to caldy hill and then on to grange hill. Its not really that far but its a tough ride over mixed terrain and really gets the blood pumpin.

Yes I know what you mean- you have to be prepared to find the secret little areas lol. When you do find a new place or little track its a nice feeling- unfortunately they are not very long as you say. Either way at least we get out on the bike hey!

Chopper it's a 2011 Alpine 160.
Still on me trusty 09 Aggresser XC1, had to upgrade the rear wheel (2nd one in a year) to a Hope Pro 2.
We be doing the black trail @ Llandegla on the 31st if any one is up for it, will be travelling via train to Wrexham then a 6 mile slog to One Planet.
We will be starting the trail @ 10am.
All are welcome.
Will be starting a thread soon with regards to MTB riding, bargain places, bike set up etc.

Nice bike.
You must be fit doing 6 miles before the 13 mile slog lol.
I am looking to start going soon again but kids and pressures persist lol.
Would be interesting to hear your comments on bike setup etc
I shall be following your posts in the future.
