It is, cost him a pretty penny (near £4k)

My £600 GT keeps up (albeit near £600 servicing) keeps up, tired though now.

Used to be really into jumps around 1999-2001, had rough accident where I had to have 3 ops on me nose. Binned it off for years then decided after hitting 19st I needed to get on a bike.

I ride over 100 miles per week now (13 mile daily for work) try to do atleast 40 on a Sat and a "quick" 18 mile rip to West Kirby and back (timed @ 55mins).

Must admit am goosed after doing Llandegla, thats the fun though.

No Brains?

Some nice tech parts back in the day, not been there for years.

Be willing for a ride there but i'm worried I will be dissapointed after doing Marin/Llandegla

Mr Phil is hardcore- my car has got less mileage on it LOL
I can manage a drive to Llandegla and then the black run but that does put me on the verge of blowing a nut... my total mileage on average for a week is around 25-30, thats all.
I am heavy though at 16 stone I suppose- my excuse.

My average is around 50 - 100 a week with my commute, all depends what mood I am in. Would be up for a ride around Llandegla though.

My bother has just nicked one of my Pajeros for taking himself and a few mates down for this ride, they were going to do one of the Scottish runs but it seems part of the trail is closed this time of year.

I'm not sure if it was the car he wanted or the queue for cooking oil was shorter than the one for diesel.

Gutted, will not be able to make it tomorrow,

Sorry if any wiki people are going.

On a different note below is a selection of tyres I use on the MTB.

[Linked Image]

L to R

Scwalbe City Jet, 1.95 perfect for road work.

Maxxis Ignitor and Continental Explorer these are the work tyres, both 2.1 in size. Grip is ok for the Wirral Way but not much use on more off road.

Next up is a pair of Maxxis Ignitor 2.35, these are wire bead and they came as std on the bike. Long lasting and good grip for off road. They have bad drag on them though, useless for road/wirral way.

The last to are Maxxis High Roller super tacky (L) and High Roller 2 (R) the latter is great off road in the wet. The super tacky is not to my liking.

I have more in the garage but they are nearly bald so no point in showing lol.

Next time will be Gear selection/problems and how to over come them.

Yes, hardtails are fine. Full suss is for comfort really.

A helmet is a definate requirement as you hit some big speeds on rough terrain (30+mph on slate with a curve)

Are you after a bike? If so how much are you willing to spend?

We will definatly be going next week, your welcome to join us.

Llandegla is around 7 miles from Wrexham. All up hill so beware it is a killer.

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&sugexp=frgbld&gs_nf=1&cp=33&gs_id=3x&xhr=t&q=wrexham+train+station+to+LL11+3AA&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1600&bih=796&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl

Just beware a FULL nut and bolt check should be done including a crank test (bolts etc) Check your spokes! loose spokes are note fun when they snap.

Check your chain for wear, if it is ok then lube up with some Muck Off wet/dry lube dependent on weather.

Tyres to around 30-35 psi is more than hard enough, different tyres require different pressures (high rollers 30psi or Ignitors @ 35psi)

The kit I take for Llandegla is as follows.

Camel Back Mule (3ltr water capacity, 2 ltrs is more than enough in winter. 3 for summer) Inside it I use 2 Nuun Citrus, 1 SIS berry powder and 1.5ltr water topped up with a Lucazade sport orange. Mad concoction but I find it workd for me.
Helmet
Gloves
Wind Jacket
Sports Sunglasses
Spare Tube
Puncture repair kit
Multi tool
2 Bananna's
3 SIS sports jellys (easy to eat when you want a boost in carbs near the end)
1 butty
Kit Kat

Probably forgot something.

You can hire a bike from them for £25 iirc but you have to book in advance and need ID bill etc, plenty of people do it on them (kona hard tails)

Need any more info just ask.
