so yesterday my girlfriend went to morrissons in new brighton on her way to work and while there paid for her goods on card and also got £30 cash back. but as she was in a rush she forgot to pick up her cash back from the self-service checkout, i phoned the store earlier and they said nothing had been handed in, which either means another shopper picked up her cashback or that the assistant at the shop has pocketed it, as it was about 12:00midday i doubt it'd be that busy either.

is there anything that can be done about claiming it back by checking the CCTV to see who's picked it up (customer or staff) and pursuing a theft case or whatever or just let it go???

thanks for any help and advice.

if it can be classed as theft then they have to show the police ,but as a good will gesture they may do it .the problem most people have is they give up too easily .always look into what you can do

If she has the receipt then she has proof ie - for example - £30 worth of goods on receipt but £60 taken from card, surely the store can do a till check and see they are £30 up or do you suspect the till operator has pocketed the cash? If so then the store have a duty to look into this, ie - CCTV, good luck.

It's a self service checkout they used and just forgot to get their cash, nothing to do with a till operator or the store being up.

Cash has probably been picked up by another customer who saw it sticking out of the machine.

I think you might be able to request the cctv footage under the freedom of information act? I think its costs about £10.00

Data Protection Act. (FOI only applies to publicly funded bodies such as hospitals, council etc.)

Some cards are insured, can she claim it back? Tell her to contact her bank. I paid for a holiday using a Visa card but the holiday company were frauds. The bank gave me the money back.

i used to work on security at large store, if a customer didnt pick up there cash back on self checkouts it was handed to and recorded at customer services if they say they dont have it ask for the manager and tell them you would like them to check cctv as you want to know if it was a customer or a member of staff who took it. they are not allowed by law to give you the cctv only the police can request it and you are not allowed to view it. if it was a member of staff it will investigated internally but they will inform you of this if it was a member of the public then it is up to you to inform the police and for them to contact store and ask for cctv. you never know they might know who ever took it. good luck x

You have the right to see CCTV footage of yourself and get a copy within 40 days of asking for it.

You need to make a request in writing to the owner of the closed circuit television (CCTV) system.

The owner’s details are usually written on a sign attached to the camera, unless the owner is obvious (like a shop).

You need to provide enough information so that you can be identified in the footage, like:

a specific date and time
proof of your identity
a description of yourself

The CCTV owner decides how they provide the footage.

You can be charged a fee of up to £10 (the current maximum set by law).

The footage may be edited to protect the identities of other people.

If the CCTV footage relates to a crime and the police have the footage, the police will tell you if you can see it.

----^^^^^^^^^^^^^^---- What he says!

If someone records you either on video or camera you are allowed to see what they have recorded and as above the owner has the right to charge up to £10.

if it was me id just say fook it, learn from my mistake and move on.

For the rigmarole of getting £30 back, which is unlikely, the amount of hassle wouldnt be worth it

Well that's tough luck then, learn by it and move on Divvy.
