Im having trouble getting my laptop to turn on. I can hear it running but the screen is just blank. I was using it on sunday and it worked ok but then when i come to use it on monday it just wouldnt work. I left it last night to charge the battery up incase that was the problem but its still not coming on today. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Do you have a monitor you can plug it into. If the picture comes up on your monitor then the laptop screen is the likely cause, whether its a connector, a wire or the screen itself is the more interesting thing to try and find out.

Hi nicky with most laptops. Sometimes the screen backlight goes but please try this before it comes to that. There should be a button usually the Fkeys (i.e. F4,F5) check to see if there is one with a Screen and then press FN - say F7 (but the one that has the screen) This is also a usual joke where someone does this to be a pain. But if nothing happens then it may be the screen backlight has gone. If the computer still powers up as you say maybe try and find someone with a monitor or if you have an LCD tv try and see if it connects to that and you can actually get some sort of picture. If all else fails see (Neil) The DR he may have more better advice as it might be that the computer power ups but thats it.
P.S. If this is too technical for you im sorry but i hope this helps.
Regards Lee.

ouch id take up to the dr. Can i ask what model of laptop it is ? If its an acer and its just the fan its the usual sign the motherboard inside has gone. Usually to over heating. But to be sure take it the dr;s shop or see if mark can have a look for you

Its a HP 6735s i think. When i was using it on sunday it seemed hot as it had been running for a while and then the battery ran out so i left it. I just hope it hasnt overheated and damaged it. Will try the start button in a minute. Fingers crossed.

turn on the computer and put a light up against the screen if you can see anything in the back ground then your back light has gone simple way of checking ,also do the lights on the front come on ie battery light and hard drive light

Ive just been speaking to Niki on the phone, there is a bit more to this and its giving 5 flashing pulses from the Capslock, which means a Board Problem. Niki done well researching that part, but the laptop is now 4yrs old and is probably beyond economic repair. Left her with a couple of options to mull over. So its a know HP Problem.
