Hi I fish the overflow on bidston moss many people struggle there cause of the depth but if u know where and when to fish its really good with perch up to 5 pound and carp 30+ big tench and bream also Rudd eels roach and u never know what's lurking 20 feet below ha would be good to get a little boat or dinghy that's suitable and fish areas from above I have record for barbel on upper 7 !
yes thats the overflow derek mate and paul as for the flow. yes people struggle on there because its a hard water. not just because of the depths but because is only a small head of carp in there. as for if you fish it right. NOBODY in there KNOWS how to fish it right. its a strange water and the fish are old enough and wise enugh to avoid baits. these 30+ carp u speak of are merely speculation. yes there may be big fish in it but NOONE has had a 30 out and if u have had anything even 10lb shy of that i'd like the pics to prove that . secondly the perch you speak of are no longer around to that size. from the stock report u gave here you would think you last fished it 20 years ago mate. am not trying to be rude i just hate rumours spreading that our untrue about our local waters. yes there used to be big perch but a mate fishes for only perch in there and the biggest is a 3.2 in the past 2-3 yrs. he fishes lures and maggy too. never heard of a tench coming out of here. and havent heard of any bream out in at least 8 or 9 years. yes there r eels and i believe a few rudd but havent seen any roach out. there are alot of eels in there. and this 7 lb barbel you speak of ? in the flow?? i find it VERY HARD to believe so do you have any pics of this ? dont normally question anglers reports but when its on local waters and its going to bring a lot of idiots out the water hunting for these 30+ carp that have never seen the bank and there is no proof of em in there. and would take alot of time and money (BAIT) to prove their existence either way.
I seen a e36 pound mirror come out was caught by 1 of the bell brothers and I've fished waters rivers and canals since I could hold a rod I caught a 14lb barbel on upper 7 and have pics . The flow is full of big fish if u know where they are like I said and my best pal Simon wade peters son who own bait shop on poulton years ago caught black tench !
yes there was many species in it a few years back but alot of them have died out and couldnt compete with the huge mass of eels in there. i dont know the bell brothers but if a 36lber came out of the overflow everyone around here would know about it. a fish of that size on a water not only local but how hard it is of a water. wouldnt stay quiet for long. a mate of mine has fished it solid for a couple of years now and hasnt had a fish of that size an he knows his carpin. but he's seen fish cruising and heard the rumours so still tries for it. a pic made it in anglers mail a few years back of a 20+ maybe 25 an you could make out the edge of the tip in the picture and people were bivvied up on the flow for weeks afterwards lol. and ahh lol fair play i thought u said u had a barbel out of the flow. and it was an upper 7. i don't question your history of fishing mate i question your knowledge of the water in question. ya can't give out that much info on a water without questions when i know some of it is untrue. its a hard water in a rough area and this post could have novice anglers thinking its a worth a session there as there is 30+'s in there (supposedly lol). not only is it a fairly dangerous place for gear theft etc but its a very deep water thats off the track so to speak. if someone was to have an accident there and fall in then there is no real help other than dog walkers for a good while.
peorple think because 20's came out 15 odd years ago then now they must be 30's or 40's but fish dont just keep growing like that. some fish that were 25 lb 20 years ago have never gone about 28 lb. but also fish die off too lol some 1 re-ignite this topic when they have some info on the place not hear say !
I sold my gear not long ago to pay my bills when I came out of work got robbed ha but needed the money I do miss getting up at 3am making my flask and going out with the mist on ground and low. Light getting exited about the day ahead the only bad thing about fishing is going home :-(
ive had many tench out of there, the "blackness" is down to the clarity of the water and the fact that the silt that covers the bottom of the lake is anaerobic. The fish darken up cross their backs naturally as a form of camoflage to help them blend into the substrate. All freshwater species darken up in clear water
There has been a mirror carp around the 28lb mark in there since i was fishing it back in the early 80's .i have recently seen a picture of this fish when it was caught last year so i know its still knocking about As for the 30lb + commons, unless someone can show me definitive proof then im sceptical. Although the water is rich enough in natural life to sustain a handfull of large fish.
It used to fish really well like I first said it would be great to go in a little boat and fish the far Deep side over the sunken cars that's where I got ripped off using 4lb maxima straight through on single lob worm ha love to know what it was near pulled me in .
hi everyone am a newbie, just a little update on the overflow been fishing there latley on lures and small maggot feeders.fishing for the so called big perch.Guess what not a single take or bite lol hard water is not the word but i will not be defeated haha. anyways i was speakin to some fella on the bank who was fishin for carp and has been fishing there for the past 12 years. He reckons that hes had 20s and pushin 30s out but no photographic evidence to backup his story..so it begs to differ is there any carp left in there at all??????
what lures u been usin mate ? be best with a small toby in there i reckon. and i know the fella u mean. there r fish in there but unless u have alot of experience with a variety of lakes then i wouldn't bother. you need to put a hell of alot of watercraft into that place. u have to be prepared to put alot of bait and a hell of alot of time into this place and its wether the fish still in there r big enough for the time and effort. its a massive water with a small head of carp. as for the perch i heard ALOT died off about 5-7 years but there r still a few in there.
