someone I know had a small bump at b&q roundabout last week the person drove off and so did my relative but phoned the police as soon as they got to work the other person had already phoned them so details were given and contact was made arrangements to get a quote where made however for such a small bump this quote has come back at a ridiculous price and with a note to say that when the car is looked at further there may be other issues is my relative within his rights to get another independent quote this seems like a full rip off my relative had a witness in the car she didn't and drove to work with no problems thanks for any help

Let the insurance companies deal with it... is my advice.
If you don't tell them and try and sort it yourselves it sounds like this person might suddenly develop whiplash and with this being the case you will need the insurance companies on it as retrospectively telling them won't go down too well and a £xk quote for compo and the repair bill won't be something you'll want to settle on your own.

I don't expect that to be the case at all.

Sadly car body repairs always come back at what sounds like ridiculous prices and with that proviso too.You really should do what Emeeh says and get your insurance company involved.

I take it your relative was at fault?
If that's the case the person with the damaged car could add anything on to the quote if they think you are paying without going through the insurance.
If this is the case tell them to get more quotes and settle in the middle of all the prices. If they don't agree to it, go through the insurance. If they are avoiding going through insurance, you gotta ask why - maybe they are not insured...

Someone crashed into my parents car while my dad was in the post office this morning and they drove off having damaged the bumper. My dad has been quoted over £700 to fix it. The person who crashed into it was seen and the witness took down the registration number. My dad has just had to go to the police station in Birkenhead to report it as apparently you can't do it over the phone anymore and the only 2 stations you can go to are Wallasey and Birkenhead. It happened at the shops in Meols

i had my car crunched outside a friends on monday evening guess what...yeah they just fooked off plenty of white paint deposited on my silver car, front passenger wing wrecked and bumper damaged you can do it over the phone ! dial 101 and report the incident, you dont need to go to the police station i was informed by a local beat bobby that you should always report it even without witnesses, in case some one tries to blame you for damaging them
