About £80 for the ARP bolts mate, and the price of a sump gasket (about £25) and about 3 hours labour to fit (£45/hr?) It might sound expensive, but the original bolts stretch at high RPM and then the bottom end shells can spin and ruin the rod/crank.... Basically then its cheaper to replace the motor. When you do buy one, listen for a knocking as this is well known on these engines, and people have been known to sell them on before the inevitable happens... Also, dont confuse this knocking with a noisy Vanos (which is at the top / front of the engine) Edit. If you did buy one from an enthusiast, it might already have had this done HTH Ste.

M3 is awesome, I've never had a go of one. Can't see them being any cheaper at the moment.

NP Ste, happy to help anyone with an E30 or E36 BMW I must admit I do like the look of yours with the ACS bits on it.... I race an e30 in the Production BMW Championship, but am very tempted to build an M3 trackday car or a 318is for the Khumo series. I think that the E36 is at a point at the moment where the E30 was about 4-5 years ago, not worth a fortune and there is a lot of sh1te about. Five years ago when they reached their lowest prices you could pick up an average E30 M3 for about £4k5, those cars are changing hands over £8k! Im not convinced that E36 M3's will double in price in the next 5 years, but a tidy one thats looked after wont drop anymore £'s and will become more sought after I'm sure

Someone said the evo timing units always fail and they need a special type of oil. How true is this? Bit of Old skool graphics ...

I believe there is lots of hype about these failing, and even healthy ones can be quite noisy.
If the specified oil is changed regularly, and the vanos filters changed at the same time, then this maintenance will usually prevent a failure.....

SWAP ME!!! Ok, I bought this as a runaround whilst my GSi was being done up, now that it's almost ready I'm after swapping this for another car. Any interest? The only thing I have had to do to this is put 2 new tires on the back which only cost £90, obviously it's been maintained in the oil/engine department monthly . Oh, milage is now 120k
